A Classic Yacht
Adelaar
39 M | 4 Cabins | 8 Guests
Adelaar is a Dutch schooner built in 1902 and ran cargo under sail between England, Scandinavia, and Russia long before she saw the tropics. Seized and renamed in the Second World War, she later carried Baltic cargo under engine, and by the late 1970s had fallen out of service. Two friends bought her and restored her over four years. She went on to cross the Atlantic and the Pacific under sail, reaching Indonesia in 1993, and has cruised these waters ever since. Today she carries eight guests across four cabins, with a crew of twelve and a full dive centre, through Komodo, Raja Ampat, and the Banda Sea.
“Eight guests, a crew who have run this yacht for years, and food people still mention months later.”

History & Craftsmanship
On Board Adelaar
She was rebuilt at the same Dutch yard that first launched her, rigged again as a schooner, and restored using photographs kept by the family who built her. She won a tall ship race on her passage east, and her original 1902 logbook now sits in a Dutch maritime museum. What guests step aboard today is a yacht shaped by real sea miles, not a story written for a brochure.
The care taken in her restoration still shows in the teak panelling, the marble in the bathrooms, and the high ceilings. Alfresco dining and a large open main deck offer not only a glimpse in the past but enough space and beautiful views. At the aft there is an indoor dining room with large windows and Below deck, she has a stocked library, and a saloon with a bar.
Accommodation
Cabins on Adelaar
Adelaar shows her age in the best sense. The cabins are lined in warm teak, handworked and panelled throughout, with built-in desks, bookshelves kept stocked, and a cushioned settee set into the wall for the hours between dives. Brass rimmed portholes let in a disc of light above the bed.
The en suite bathrooms carry the same craftsmanship, each finished in its own veined marble, green in one cabin, deep red in another, with curved teak cabinetry and chrome fittings. Her steel hull sits low and solid in the water, and the nights at anchor are wonderfully still, the kind of quiet that makes sleep come easily far from any shore.
Underwater Exploration
Diving on Adelaar
Adelaar is set up properly for diving. She carries a full dive centre with three compressors and a nitrox membrane system, and two aluminium tenders, each crewed by two, take divers to the sites and back. The gear is prepared and handled by the crew, so guests need only step into a wetsuit and onto the tender.
The voyages are led by a cruise director and dives are planned by a PADI instructor alongside experienced dive guides, who plan each dive around the conditions and the divers rather than a fixed timetable. They also brief thoroughly before every descent.
