Labuan Bajo has grown from a quiet fishing town into the gateway to Komodo, and its places to stay have grown with it, from international resorts with overwater villas to simple guesthouses in town. Here is a guide to where to stay, by budget and by location, so you can match a place to how you want to start or finish your trip.

Where to Stay in Labuan Bajo: A Guide to Hotels and Resorts

Labuan Bajo has grown from a quiet fishing town into the gateway to Komodo National Park, and its accommodation has grown with it. There is now a genuine range, from international-brand resorts with overwater villas to simple, comfortable guesthouses in town. For most travellers, Labuan Bajo is where a Komodo charter begins and ends, which can it a place to spend a night or two before or after a voyage.

First, Decide on Location

The choice that influences a stay most is where you base yourself. There are broadly three options. Staying in or near the town centre puts you within walking distance of the harbour, restaurants, dive shops, and the night market, which suits short stays. The beach resorts along Waecicu Beach, a short drive or boat transfer north of town, trade walkability for quiet, sea views, and a resort setting. A few properties sit on their own private islands, reached only by boat, which offer seclusion at the cost of easy access to town. The following list is organised from Luxury to budget.

Luxury Resorts

Labuan Bajo’s top tier has expanded quickly in the last few years, and now includes international-brand resorts, private villas, and a handful of overwater options that were not here a decade ago. These are the places for travellers who want full-service comfort, a spa, and sea views, whether as a treat at the end of a voyage or a base for a longer stay. Most sit out at Waecicu Beach or on the hillsides around town.

TA’AKTANA, a Luxury Collection Resort and Spa

Area: Waterfront, around 10 minutes from the airport   Style: International-brand resort, Manggarai-inspired design   Price tier: Higher

The newest of the major resorts, opened in 2024 as Marriott’s first property in Labuan Bajo and part of its Luxury Collection. It is built explicitly around the culture of Flores, with architecture drawn from Manggarai tradition, and spans 70 rooms including 25 villas, seven of them overwater. There is an Olympic-sized pool, a spa, several restaurants, and a kids club, which makes it a strong option for families as well as couples. A good choice if you want an internationally run resort with a genuine sense of place rather than a generic one.

AYANA Komodo Waecicu Beach

Area: Waecicu Beach, north of town   Style: Large beachfront five-star resort   Price tier: Higher

One of the longest-established five-star resorts in Labuan Bajo, set directly on Waecicu Beach with its own jetty, several restaurants including the Honzen Japanese restaurant, a spa, and a large pool. It is a full-service resort in the international sense, and a great choice for families or couples who want everything in one place.

Plataran Komodo Resort and Spa

Area: Waecicu Beach, reached by a short drive or boat   Style: Private villas in a secluded cove   Price tier: Higher

Set in a quiet cove at Waecicu, Plataran is a villa resort known for privacy and traditional Javanese-influenced design, with cliffside villas, private pools, and sunset views over the water. It suits honeymooners and families who want seclusion and space rather than a large resort atmosphere. It is also home to the Atlantis on the Rock restaurant, a popular spot for a sunset dinner.

Sudamala Resort, Komodo

Area: Hillside above town   Style: Boutique resort with a strong Flores identity   Price tier: Higher / mid-range

A boutique resort on the hillside above town, notable for a design and ethos rooted in Flores culture, including a restaurant with a roof inspired by the traditional Wae Rebo style. It is close enough to town to be convenient while still feeling removed from it. One practical note from recent guests: the hillside setting involves some steep access and stairs, worth knowing for anyone with mobility concerns. Sudamala also operates a private-island sister resort, Sudamala Seraya, for travellers who want a more remote island stay.

Katamaran Hotel and Resort

Area: Waecicu area, near town   Style: Resort with overwater bungalows   Price tier: Higher.

A more recent addition frequently named among the town’s top luxury options, known particularly for its overwater bungalows, a rarity in Labuan Bajo. A good option for travellers drawn to the overwater-villa experience without going to a fully remote island.

Mid-Range Hotels

The mid-range is where Labuan Bajo offers the most choice, and often the best balance of comfort, location, and value. This tier covers everything from large modern hotels on the waterfront to design-led places on the hillsides, several of them an easy walk from the harbour and the town. For many travellers, a night or two here before or after a charter is all they need, and these options cover it well without resort prices.

Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo

Area: Central, on the waterfront near the marina   Style: Large modern five-star hotel   Price tier: Mid-range to higher

A large, modern hotel in the most central location of the upper-tier options, on the waterfront by the marina and an easy walk from the town. It has a pool, a fitness centre, a garden, and an Indonesian and Asian restaurant. The central position makes it a practical choice for travellers who want comfort without being out at Waecicu, and it is close to the harbour for early departures.

Loccal Collection Hotel

Area: Hillside above town   Style: Design hotel with panoramic views   Price tier: Mid-range to higher

A hillside hotel known for its white-walled, blue-accented design and sweeping views over the Flores Sea, sometimes described as the Santorini of Indonesia. It is a short walk from town, downhill, and a popular choice for the view and the design.

Bintang Flores Hotel

Area: Central, a short drive from the harbour   Style: Long-established four-star hotel   Price tier: Mid-range

A long-running four-star hotel that many returning visitors to Labuan Bajo will recognise by name. It has a private beach in front, a large pool, sea-facing rooms, and, good service.

Puri Sari Beach Hotel

Area: Just outside town, beachfront   Style: Quiet beachfront hotel   Price tier: Mid-range

Set a little away from the busier part of town, Puri Sari offers a quieter, beachfront atmosphere, with rooms that have private balconies and sea or garden views, an outdoor restaurant, and a pool. From our perspective, the best mid-range option for families and couples who want the beach without full resort prices.

Budget and Simple Stays

Labuan Bajo is a genuinely backpacker-friendly town, so budget travellers are well served, particularly around the livelier central streets near the fish market. Expect simple, clean rooms and sociable hostels. For anyone spending most of their time on the water or out in the park, a comfortable, well-placed base to sleep and reorganise.

Seaesta Komodo Hotel and Hostel

Area: Central, near the fish market   Style: Hostel and budget hotel   Price tier: Budget

Widely regarded as one of the better budget options in town, Seaesta offers both dormitory beds and private hotel rooms, with a rooftop pool and a sociable atmosphere. It has a good location near the fish market and the livelier part of town. A practical, good-value base for solo travellers before or after a boat trip.

La Cecile Hotel and Cafe

Area: Near Tado village, outside the centre   Style: Small family-friendly hotel   Price tier: Mid-range to budget

A smaller, family-friendly hotel a little outside the centre, with a pool, a view over the town, air-conditioned rooms, and a shuttle service on request. A reasonable, quieter choice for a short stay, though its location means you will rely on transport into town.

Practical Notes

  • Location matters more than star rating here. A five-star resort at Waecicu is a very different stay from a central hotel, so decide whether walkability or quiet matters more to you first.
  • Book ahead in high season, roughly May to August, when the better places fill quickly.
  • Airport transfers are short, since the airport is only a few kilometres from town, and most hotels can arrange a pickup.
  • Prices vary widely by season and availability, so treat the price tiers here as a general guide rather than a fixed figure.
