The Destinations
Family Itineraries
Indonesia offers several regions and itineraries that work particularly well for families, depending on ages and interests. Komodo is often a strong starting point for first-time family charters, easy to reach from Bali and with short distances between anchorages and a good balance of land and sea highlights.
Raja Ampat suits families with more overall time and children who already have some water abilities and travel experience. Our voyage planners suggest destinations and itineraries based on season, sea conditions, and the style of trip your family wants.
Family Voyages
Private VS Cabin Voyages
The vast majority of our family voyages take place on private yachts, as this allows the experience to be shaped around your family’s rhythm. With the whole yacht to yourselves, the daily planning can be adjusted to suit the children; choosing calmer sites, keeping water sessions shorter, building in rest time, and timing meals around what works best for your family.
For selected fixed dates and itineraries, cabin voyages can also be an option. Typically, best suited to families with older children who are comfortable with a more social onboard dynamic and a structured programme.
Expert Advice
Practical Notes & Tips for Cruising with Kids
In our experience, a family charter works best when the rhythm stays simple, and expectations are managed. Here are a few practical notes for parents to keep in mind for your family voyage.
Share your children’s needs early. Tell our bookings team and your cruise director about ages, swimming confidence or routines.
Bring familiar comfort items. A few favourite toys, books, or drawing materials go a long way between activities.
Extra support can be arranged. Babysitters/nannies or extra guides, depending on number and ages of kids, can be arranged on request*.
Snorkelling Gear. While there is always snorkelling gear onboard, bringing the own familiar mask & fins helps with water confidence.
Food is easy with a little planning. Chefs can prepare kid-friendly meals and adjust for allergies or preferences—tell us in advance. Many parents also bring a few familiar snacks.
Plan lighter days. Easy snorkelling, kayaks, SUPs, and water toys are ideal for sheltered bays and beach time, especially when you want activity without intensity.
Sun routine: Rash guards, enough water, hats, and reef-safe sunscreen; aim for water time in the morning and shade breaks midday.
Keep the daily flow flexible. Shorter water sessions, earlier starts, and quiet downtime usually make the trip feel easier for everyone.

Time Together
Family Activities
Family journeys are shaped around rhythm rather than strict schedules. A typical day might include breakfast on deck, one water session, a beach stop or short hike, then downtime for games, reading, or naps.
Calm bays and shallow reefs are ideal for kids to explore the water at an easy pace. Snorkelling is guided, and the sites are selected in line with abilities and water confidence.
Spend quality family time in a unique setting, with space to slow down and be together. Shared meals on deck, exploring reefs, and quiet evenings at anchor.
From reef life in the shallows to birds on guided island walks, kids often spot more than adults do. A voyage offers a great setting for children to appreciate and learn about wildlife.
Many yachts offer crew-led kids activities such as treasure hunts, pirate games, wildlife learning, and guided stargazing.
Quiet beaches create the simplest, most enjoyable family moments – sandcastle time, shell collecting, and space to run around. The crew can set up shade and a small beach camp as a base.
Kayaking and stand-up paddling are a relaxed way to explore the shoreline. In calm bays, kids can join on the front or try paddling themselves for the first time.
Respectful Village visits create cultural awareness and an opportunity to learn about the local way of life in Indonesia.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. With the right destination, yacht choice, and a flexible daily rhythm, cruising with children can be smooth and enjoyable. We help match routes and activities to your family’s ages and comfort level.
Safety starts with a clear briefing and basic onboard rules. Families should pay extra attention around stairs and deck areas. We recommend joining children during water activities based on age and confidence, and working closely with the cruise director on daily planning.
Most family charters work best at 5–9 nights, allowing time to settle into the rhythm without feeling rushed (shorter trips can still work with a central destination and simple pacing).
Most of our family itineraries focus on calmer waters and sheltered anchorages, helping to minimise motion. Seasickness tablets are available on board if needed, and the cruise director can adjust timing and routing to keep the day as comfortable as possible.
Komodo often suits first-time family charters due to short cruising distances and a balanced mix of beaches, snorkelling, and land highlights. Raja Ampat can work well for families seeking a more remote cruising experience.
Yes. Chefs can prepare kid-friendly options and adjust for allergies and preferences if you tell us in advance. Parents often bring a few familiar snacks as well.
Yes, children from the age of 10 years can Try-scuba Diving with an instructor or obtain a Junior Open Water licence during a yacht charter. Please talk to our voyage planners to integrate a diving experience for children into the charter planning process.
